4KR(4keep roses) had several packaging ideas to pack their roses in various sizes by categorizing them with different festival-oriented purposes in a displayed box to hold 6roses, 12 roses, 18 roses, and 24 roses.
4KR is a new brand of Preserved Roses distributed over hundreds of 7 eleven shops around USA. They came out with lots of roses in colors and materials trying to launch the market with a completely new look. A list of category of 1 rose,6 roses,12 roses, 18 roses and 24 roses combined with different colors is presented in a displayed box on the small checkout counters, a big challenged is made.
4KR finally agreed to proceed with the option: PDQ with two layers and one corrugated cardboard lid sliding to cover entirely and protect the displayed counter during shipment. When it was time to find a printing solution, UCPACK decided to use double dark red color to enhance the printing quality of product image details and texts on the box. Color correction presented 4 Keep Roses trademark accurately and impressively. Meanwhile, we have to set up a new line of equipment to ensure qualified production and perfect execution of the “non-visible flap” at scale.
4KR needed one premium package design to be held at least 24 roses in 7-eleven on a small checkout desk instead of a large PDQ.A singular displayed box has two separate and flexible layers. When the roses on the upper layer sold out, we can easily take the layer out and let the below roses fully preserved. Both layers can be flat-packed before shipment to save air freight. We also brought up the packaging ideas while we had a face-to-face discussion in the café of Renaissance Harbor View Hotel Hong Kong and come to the final solution during the HK violence.
The protection of the displayed counter was also crucial as roses have to be treated carefully during shipment. An easy-open and strong lid within a budget is a big challenge. We also need to figure out a way to keep roses away from any damage, even shipping box upside-down. All steps from rose packaging to shipment and displayed, we need to foresee and double consider all issues and set up a prototype to test. To enhance the 4KR trademark, we need to think of a brand new look and feel the unboxing experience with a different premium look and feel unusual.
Based on client requests, the UCPACK team started to create several packaging solutions to layout roses by communicating effectively with the transparent tube and sponge supplier.The transparent tube supplier facilitated a new aluminum mold to make the cap diameter 0.1mm smaller to create a tighter snugness when closed. Meanwhile, they use another sort of recyclable material to keep the plastic tube and the bottom of the paper tube sticky together under a heated or cold environment for over months.
Sponge suppliers adjust the volume to slow down the speed of forming. In this way, a sponge can keep in good shape under 1mm off. Also, they figured out a new solution to change tube shape into “flower,” it looks stunning and taken out much smoother. 4KR figured out a solution to make two separate layers of PDQ. And UCPACK followed up with the diecut line and made a double color printing press to make the whole PDQ look attractive. After the drop test, we facilitated a new set of assembling lines to make the bottom of the paper tube perfectly smooth without any visible turn-ins.
4KR’s supplier in Colombia received boxes in good condition and tested packaging. Here is still an extra issue we ignored: The top shipping cover and PDQ sealed together by tape turned out not strong enough after testing. We replaced the cap with lid and base two layers of shipping boxes for protection. Two layers of roses are a big sale with fabulous designs.4KP brand enhanced and recognized by customers. Thoughtful insights and details- focused make roses preserved in good condition from plant to the stores.
